Eleanor Whitfield

Eleanor represents clients in contested estates and beneficiary disputes, and advises on designations affected by separation, divorce and incapacity.

Biography

Eleanor Whitfield is one of Toronto's most respected estate litigators. She acts for executors, beneficiaries and family members when a beneficiary designation is challenged, unclear or inconsistent with a will or separation agreement.

Her practice combines courtroom advocacy with careful preventive work. Eleanor regularly advises clients going through separation on how and when beneficiary designations can be changed, and acts for attorneys under powers of attorney who need guidance on what they may and may not change on behalf of an incapable person.

Eleanor has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and is recognized for resolving disputes through mediation wherever possible.
